Triple Goddess
Wiccans and other pagans, are there any historical references to a maiden/mother/crone triple goddess?
From which culture and when were they worshiped? Are there any archaeological finds associated with their worship? So far, I've found statues of three female deities but they were all the same age (like sisters) rather than MMC.
As the others have said, three Godesses appearing together do appear in the Germanic and Norse lore. However, there is little evidence to indicate that they were maiden/mother/crone . Indeed, the three Goddesses generally appear as part of the cult of matronae or "mothers." This would totaly wipe out the idea of a maiden. The cult of matrons is generally found in the form of altars along Hadrian's Wall in England, as well as several altars in Germanic areas on the continent. They are generally given names like Garmangabi or "generous one." The Disir of the Norse myths may be a remanant of this cult, although the greater Norns also appear as three (Urd, Verthandi, Skuld).
