What is this book called?
I THOUGHT it was by Gail Carson Levine, the woman who wrote The Wish, Ella Enchanted, and The Two Princesses of Bamarre, but I believe I am wrong.
It is about a woman, and one day a tiny dog(?) comes into her house or shop, I forget which. And the woman wants to keep the dog, but then a girl comes in after him. The girl is an orphan, and the woman allows the girl to stay. The woman tells the girl that she is supposed to stay away from a set of china, or something, in one of the rooms. But the girl disobeys and accidentally breaks one of the dishes. A fairy named Lucinda appears and makes her a deal, that involves fixing the dishes. The girl agrees and the dishes are fixed.
The woman also has a son named Thomas that married Lucinda? And he was the one who originally broke the dishes And he ran away.
Something like that. I forget. I read it in 2nd grade.

Gail Carson Levine did write a couple of books with a fairy called Lucinda in them Ella Enchanted and Fairest but neither of them look like the book you are seeking
