How much does it cost per month/year to have a cat?

If you include all expenses: food, litter, toys, and trips to the vet and/or groomer...About how much do you spend per month/year on your cat?
Also, are some breeds more expensive than others? I know Persians have really long hair...

I recently calculated how much my cat is costing me and here's the breakdown. Besides food (about $25 per month) and litter (about $20 per month), and her yearly veterinary examination and shots (about $100), I also give her monthly heartworm and flea prevention treatments (six months' worth of the medications cost me $85, which breaks down to a little more than $14 per month). I also buy toys every now and then, and the cost of that is minimal. My cat has short hair so she doesn't need to be professionally groomed, so I'm lucky I don't have that cost to worry about. But I do have to be away for a few days at a time a couple times per year and when that happens, I take her to a boarding kennel, which costs approximately $80 to $100 each time (twice a year). I've also bought pet health insurance, which costs $144 per year, but I figure that it's money well spent because the insurance will pay for up to $12,000 of treatment per illness or per injury, and I have a $200 deductible, so the most I'll ever pay for any treatment is $200. So, totaling all of the costs, I'm spending more than $1,000 per year on my kitty. The cost would be less if I didn't have to take her to the boarding kennel a couple times per year and if I didn't pay for health insurance for her, but for me, those expenses are necessary.
