Can Anyone Help me find a good website to summarize Poems? THX in advance.?
I have the following poems that im trying to summerize:
1) Fairy Tales by Shu Ting
2) Mending Wall by Robert Frost
3) Mushrooms by Sylvia Plath
4) The Necessity for Irony By Eavan Boland
5) The child who walks backwards By Lorna Crozier
6) A kite is a victim by Leonard Cohen
Anything would be appreciated =) ... thx
Reading a Poem
Even though I read poem before, many times, but I never have to study it. I love the way the poem rhythms. Some poem has a lyric sound so beautiful like a song. Most of poems are personal express from the heart of the writers. Some poem are difficult to understand. To learn how to fix it out, what it said. At first, I have to going through all the steps on how to read and how to understand. I find out that if I do not know that rhythm is not that important until I have looked at it, and understood how it works in relationship to the rest of the poem. Even though I still don’t know everything about the poem, but I have learn many things about how to read a poem from studying.
Here is how I did it to all my poems. I crack all of them down, word to word with dictionary. The one I don’t understand it I just skipped it. It would come together at the end.
"Recital" by John Updike
Eskimos in Manitoba,
Barracuda off Aruba,
Cock an ear when Roger Bubo
Starts to solo on the tuba.
Men of every station -- Pooh-Bah,
Nabob, bozo, toff, and hobo --
Cry in unison, "Indubi-
Tably, there is simply nobo-
Dy who oompahs on the tubo,
Solo, quite like Roger Bubo!"
Unless John Updike are talking about something else, these are the things we need to know before we could understand his poem.
Eskimos are the people that live in Alaska.
We remember, about awhile back, when Jack London introducing us to Yukon, Canada. We remember how cold it is, up in Canada. Well!! Alaska is above that!!! Eskimos are the people that look source of like Oriental and live there in Alaska. You could imagine to what was Roger Bubo could do with his tuba. According to John Updike’s
statement, these Eskimos love to hear Bubo’s tuba.
Manitoba - one of the three prairie provinces in central Canada.
I have no idea why these Eskimos in Updike’s "Recital" poem end up in Manitoba, unless they moved there.
Tuba is the lowest brass wind instrument.
This might be an odd thing for us to know, he also told us in his poem that barracuda off Aruba love to hear it also.
Barracudas are the type of fish with large mouth and long strong teeth. Orientals love these fish. They are one of our diet (Just kidding).
Aruba is an island of the Netherlands Antilles north of the Venezuela coast. The popular Caribbean resort area. It is a nice place to vacation, but not with barracuda.
The Hobo is the one who wanders from place to place without a permanent home or a means of livelihood. The most popular hobo are the people we call “A train’s hopping.” It looked like or sound like it would be fun, but very dangerous thing to do. Cheap and fun, but very dangerous. Some of the hobos are at my house, these are live well.
Oompahs is A rhythmic sound made by a tuba or other brass instrument. If you watch “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” 1971 movie, you might remember one of the songs that says “Oompahs.”
According to John Updike perspective to his poem "Recital" he stated that, some Eskimos in Manitoba and some barracuda in Aruba heard this guy Roger Bubo played his tuba. Updike, tried to pervasive the readers that nobody could play a tuba like Roger Bubo because he is very popular with his tuba. Every stations, such as, Pooh-Bah, Nabob, bozo and toff were air Bubo’s tuba music, and everyone seems to listen to it. To a degree that could not be doubted, the hobo was harmony to Roger Bubo’s tuba music. Updike was wanted to make sure we would agree with him about Bubo’s tuba music, he was confirming to us again that, there is simply nobody who could relate to the sound of the tuba like Bubo. Updike confirm Bubo’s mean tuba.
