Should the FIA change back to old points system if Kimi wins in Brazil, but not the championship?
If Kimi does win in Brazil, he will have 6 first place finishes, but Hamilton would still win the championship having 4 first place finishes. Do you think the current system rewards second place too much and would a Raikkonen win put more pressure on the FIA to change the points system once again?
I don't think the they will change back to the old points system. Remember that under the old system it was 10-6-4-3-2-1, so only the top 6 finishers scored points. A change requires a unanimous vote from the team principles, and the mid-field and backmarkers won't vote to take away their scoring opportunities. Also keep in mind that keeping a smaller gap between 1st & 2nd place will reduce the chance of having a title decided early in the season which the FIA doesn't want to happen.
What I would like to see would be maybe to give the 1st place finisher an additional point or two, so you would end up with something like a 11-8-6-etc system. This would put a little more emphasis on winning and keep the midfielders happy.
I don't think points should be scored based on qualifying or fastest laps either because I like the focus to remain on the finish. If points are added for qualifying/fastest laps, teams might compromise race performance.
