What minerals are colored black?
I was wondering, what minerals are colored black or one of their natural colors can be black, things like Obsidian count too- whether or not that was redundant.
Obsidian is not crystalline. Therefore its not a mineral; it is a rock.
Some common minerals that are black, or at least very dark, are biotite, tourmaline, axinite, pyroxene, amphibole, graphite, sphalerite, magnetite, specularite, and pyrolusite.
Like most things in geology, there are exceptions to almost everything.
