Can/Should I solder together metal parts for a pin?
I'm looking to make a steampunk hat pin for a cadet hat I own, and I want to model it on old pilots' wings. If I wanted to combine wings, a metal gear and maybe some sort of fancy button, would soldering be the best way to fix them to some sort of pin base? If not, please advise!

If You Can manage it, yes, soldering is your absolutely best option. Those of us who have no access to soldering equipment have to make do with finding really good glues. Use the solder if you can.
