Maiden Fantasy
How to come up with a good idea for a villain and his/her evil plot (fantasy video-game)?
I'm making an indie fantasy/ABS game a la Legend of Zelda (with RMXP), and I'm stumped when it comes to the main antagonist. I haven't thought of much of a story just yet, but that's where I thought I should start. I don't want to make just another "I want to dominate the world" villain. I feel like I should make something different (FOR ONCE).
Of course, the main antagonist is probably going to be some badass sorcerer, demon or witch, I just don't know what his or her plan and motives would be. I thought of maybe having a witch abduct a royal maiden in hopes of stealing her youth, but I believe that's been done before.
The game is most probably going to revolve around time-travel.
It's not ABOUT LoZ, but it's the same type of game. Battles are done in realtime. It's called an ABS.
Ok, first of all,

Second,
The best way to come up with creative, original ideas is to Get Out there and be involed in current events. Most ideas for main characters come from things around you. For example, say you read about a corrupt politician in the newspaper. Maybe that gets wheels turning. What if he didn't want to be a politician, but due to pressure from others he gave in and turned away from different, better suited careers? (P.S. the main idea there is the pressure.) Like, your villain could have an uncle who put pressure on him and he really turned corrupt. Another good element is betrayal betrayal betrayal. It's good to have players on the edge of their seats, as long as you dont make it too confusing. Another thing you could do, (i dont think this has been done too often), is make ur main character on the opposite side. Then you could have a whole backstory to their oraganization or whatever to the point where the player really relates to the bad guys better than the good ones.
Either way, after having gone out and explored the world of ideas, then it's best to create a brainstorm. (I know that sounds cheesy, but hear me out.) You Can choose ur favorite story idea and branch off of that. The looks and design may come later, but it could come first as well. It really depends on how u work well.
