Do you recommend reading The Secret Life of Bees?
It's for an AP English assignment and it has to be a book of literary merit. I'm thinking of reading "The Secret Life of Bees" do you recommend it? I heard it was pretty sad.. can you please include a short summary?
Or should I read Persuasion or Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen?
I've never ready any Jane Austen, but everyone I know says that she is simply wonderful.
I did read "The Secret Life of Bees." It's about a girl named Lily who lives with her abusive father and her black nanny, Rosaline. Her mother died when she was little. She was trying to get away from T-Ray (the father), and Lily pointed a gun at her to give it to her. The gun went off and Lily accidentally killed her mom. 
Rosaline insults three racists in the town, and they are forced to run away. They go away to this house that belongs to the Calendar Sisters (August, June, and May Boatwright). They have a honey business, but there's a secret: August Boatwright raised Lily's mother.
This is such a good book. Make sure you read it with a box of tissues.
