Hindu Amulets
I read there is a an amulet in India called something like "kavachia". How do You Spell it and what is it for?
It said that hindus always carry it around their necks.
It's spelt "Kavach", literally meaning Armour. The amulets maybe a tradition brought by Sufi Islamic saints in India as Sufis wear amulets too. Although I'm not too sure about it. And no not all Hindus carry it. It's superstition, by and large. Amulets aren't supposed to worn by Hindus. At most they can wear precious and semi-precious gems based on astrological calculations which are a part of a separate scripture in Hinduism. "Yantras" or astrological geometry is used for mystical purposed but they aren't supposed to be worn either.
