Where can I find a fake pig head and hind quarter to place on the ends of a ham?
I'm planning a Luau wedding reception and I really don't need a whole pig that would feed 250 people. I would like to cook a ham and place a fake pig head and hind quarter on the ends to give the perception of a entire pig.
I'm with fast...buy a small suckling pig. You Can get them at a country butcher or in Chinatown if you have a large city near you.
Otherwise your butcher may be able to order one for you according to how many people you will have as guests. You can send home leftovers with your guests and freeze what you can't give away. Plus, it will be much better than any ham you could buy.
Be sure to serve with plenty of fresh fruit - pineapple, guava, papaya with lime wedges, coconut (fresh) and poi if you can get it - but just a taste because not everyone likes it.
Another option is to just have BBQ pork (pulled and jerk style or any island style, can be Jamaican.
Decorate with palm fronds and orchids. You can get the flowers at Trader Joe's if you have one or order a bouquet a week ahead of time From Your local florist. They will last a long time and be really exotic looking.
Don't forget the apple in the mouth if you do get a whole piglet!
