Dragon Fantasy
Is Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest made by the same people?
As of April 1, 2003, both games are made by the company Square-Enix.
Prior to this, they were two seperate companies, Square Co (Square-Soft was the and Enix.
Enix made the first Dragon Quest title in Japan, and released it on May 27, 1986. This game was later localized, and published by Nintendo of America as Dragon Warrior for the NES in August 1989.
Square made the first Final Fantasy title in Japan, and released it on December 18, 1987. This game was later localized, but published by Nintendo of America for the NES on December 18, 1987.
The first game released in the US as part of the Square-Enix name was Final Fantasy Origins released on April 8, 2003.
Unofficially, Square and Enix had some partnership in 1995, as members of the Final Fantasy team worked with some people from the Dragon Quest team to make Chrono Trigger.
