Disc Set
do i need a disc to set up an internet connection?
i have an old emachines laptop and it has been wiped clean because of some major issues it was having. but it still has a link to internet explorer. my apartment is set for wireless internet. but the emachine laptops disc drive doesnt read discs. can anyone help?
Since you mentioned wireless network so I am assuming you don't have a choice to connect to a "wired" network or don't want to go that route (where you plug a cable in your computer and into a wall jack/another jack on a "router" provided by your internet service provider).
I will address wireless here.
Since it is wireless network, your lappy has to catch the airwaves. To do that, your laptop must have a wireless card either built-in or an external wireless card that You Can buy and insert into a slot in the laptop; this will complete the wireless network between your laptop and apartment complex.
Since you mentioned it is an old laptop I am sure it does not have a wireless card built-in into it. Take the lappy to BestBuy/CircuitCity/etc. and ask for wireless card. Or search for "wireless card" on the Internet to learn more about such cards (assuming you can access Internet from somewhere else) but don't buy something which your lappy cannot support (some new cards are not supported). Expect somewhere around $15-25 for this.
