Will a well fed pleco eat live shrimp?
I want to get either some red cherry shrimp, or crystal red shrimp for my tank. But people say my pleco will eat them. But he is only 3 inches, so i dont see how it would be a problem. I just want something other than fish.
i have a sailfin pleco
Depends what species of Pleco, as some have a more carnivorous diet and will probably take Shrimp, if not adults they will take shrimplets.
When it comes to these dwarf shrimp then you're better setting up a tank designed for the shrimp, not adding them to an established fish community. Crystal Reds in particular can be VERY fragile and need immaculate water quality, at all times, and need sub-tropical temperatures too! I lost a load of mine last summer during a heatwave. Cherrys are more hardy.
